A PARLEY WITH HERMES

A Hermes Agent alternative, run from a browser.

Hermes Agent runs on your machine. We run your crew. AgentParley is a hosted crew with a face, and plugins that run in a fresh sandbox every call.

Hermes Agent, from Nous Research, runs on your machine, a rented server, or its own Hermes Cloud. Setup, plugins and updates are driven from a terminal. AgentParley is one browser tab: sign up, paste an API key, and a crew of specialists is working for you. No terminal. No command line. Nothing to update.

WHERE THE COURSES PART

Both good. Built for different people.

Where the two really part ways.

No terminal, ever.

Hermes Agent installs with a curl | bash script, or deploys from its portal to Hermes Cloud, and you update a self-hosted Hermes Agent with hermes update. AgentParley is built for people who never want to see a command line: everything is a button in the browser, and updates ship on our side.

Plugins in a real sandbox.

Hermes Agent plugins are Python code running inside the agent. They're off by default and ask for your consent, but Hermes Agent's own docs are candid: 'Plugins run as regular in-process Python: a malicious plugin can ignore every gate here.' An AgentParley plugin runs in a fresh, throwaway sandbox for every call. It gets no files and no processes, its outbound calls are checked against the sites it declared, and we work out its permissions from its code, not from its promises.

A standing crew with rules.

Hermes Agent spawns sub-agents to work in parallel, and they're good at it. AgentParley gives you a permanent team: named specialists, each on the model that suits its job, with rules about who may call whom. They message each other as colleagues, report back to the lead, and the lead doesn't answer you until every report is in.

A face, not just a voice.

Hermes Agent talks: in the terminal, Telegram and Discord voice channels. AgentParley adds a 3D companion in the web console. She listens, thinks visibly, answers out loud with lip-sync and gestures, and hands real work to your crew.

CREDIT WHERE DUE

Where Hermes Agent is the better pick.

  • Open source and free. MIT licence, about 250k GitHub stars, and a big community skills hub.
  • Cheaper hosting for one agent. Hermes Cloud starts around $0.56 a day (about $17 a month) plus model costs. That's per agent instance: five always-on agents come to about $84 a month (5 × $0.56 × 30), while Solo is $24 for five agents, crew, companion and sandbox included.
  • More connections. MCP tool servers, Signal and Email, and voice in Discord and Telegram.

If you're comfortable in a terminal, Hermes Agent is a great pick. If you want a crew that runs from a browser tab, with plugins that show their permissions before you install, AgentParley is built for you.

WHY IT MATTERS

See a plugin's access before you install.

Consent screens help. A fresh box for every call helps more.

Most plugin systems ask a plugin what it wants, then trust it. When the plugin runs inside the agent, that trust is all there is. AgentParley plugins run in a separate, throwaway sandbox for every single call, with a memory limit and a clock. No file system. No processes. Outbound requests go through our gateway and are checked against the hosts the plugin declared, and you see that list before you install. If an update asks for more, it waits for you.

How the plugin sandbox works

Hermes Agent questions

Is there a hosted Hermes Agent?

Yes: Hermes Cloud, from Nous Research, gives each agent its own always-on instance. AgentParley is a different product: a crew of agents on one plan, run from a browser tab.

Does AgentParley support MCP?

No. Plugins are how you add tools, model providers and chat apps, installed in one click, and each plugin call runs in its own sandbox.

Can AgentParley learn new skills by itself, like Hermes Agent?

Yes, with a plugin. Every agent has its own cloud workspace for notes and memories that carry over between chats. A plugin can step in as each message arrives and each answer goes out, have a utility model pick out what's worth keeping and update the agent's knowledge, then load it back into the agent's instructions on every turn. The same way, it can keep self-written skills or a profile of you.

Is AgentParley open source?

No. It's a hosted service we run, update and secure for you.

Skip the terminal. Keep the crew.

Sign up, paste an API key, and your specialists get to work.
